Play hearts kid, they work well…

Generally, I enjoy all music on vinyl more.  I don’t know how true it is that the sound quality is THAT much better, but it feels true a lot of the time.   But then there are also certain songs that just seem like they are constructed only to be played on vinyl or live.  The difference is totally and completely tangible.  Just off the top of my head – Regina Spector’s Us,  Antony and the Johnson’s Bird Girl and just about all of Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks.

Darcy got me the record Challengers by the New Pornographers for my birthday and it’s that old-style, mega-heavy premium f’n vinyl too.  (It was love straight out of the dust jacket).

And I just discovered that Go Places is one of those tunes.  It’s lovely in any format, but on vinyl, the quality of it – the driving march beat and Neko Case’s haunting, calling vocals on the melody – it just does  something completely different.  It brings something more.

It is a dark rainy day and I’m hiding away in my lovely library listening to the whole record and having a marvelous time.

(ps. bonus!  The record came with a little slip of paper with a code to download the record in Mp3 for free… I love that. )

  • Yay! I’m so glad it is a good quality. While I truly love shopping online because it means I get to buy stuff without having to deal with all of the hassles of shopping-in-the-real, I always feel a little bit like my purchase is a shot in the dark. Tis so much risk: It could be described incorrectly, or the seller is simply a douchebag and won’t send it, or it will be damaged in transit, etc. So yay for a great record arriving as intended. I hope you continue to enjoy it.

  • Oh, and what is the title of this post in reference to?

  • It’s a line that I like from “Go Places”
