I really enjoy all of Wes Anderson’s work. The Rushmore vs. Royal Tenenbaums: “Which is a better film?” debate has been bounced around numerous times in my social circle. This list is not actually representative of the BEST*, as much as explicit favoritism, in order from most favorite to least:
1. Rushmore
2. The Darjeeling Limited
3. The Royal Tenenbaums
4. The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
5. Bottle Rocket**
*Rushmore. CLEARLY.
**I think Bottle Rocket is actually a better film than Life Aquatic. For some reason, I really just enjoy watching Life Aquatic more. I speculate it’s Seu Jorge’s Bowie covers that edge it up on the favorite list.

While I agree wholeheartedly with you about Rushmore (my most favoritest movie evah), I think The Darjeeling Limited is a pretty bad movie. There, I said it. It’s boring, and bad.

Ha Ha. I totally loved it. LOVED it. I thought it was a great return to the kind of stark quirk of Rushmore instead of the more gaudy and lavish quirk of Royal and Life Aquatic.
I can see why people would find it boring, but I found it to be strangely melancholy and beautiful.

i have to watch the royal tenenbaums about twice a year. just because.
the darjeeling limited was difficult to sit through until the end when it finally made sense. and then it was painful, but in a bittersweet, lovely way.
i do enjoy wes anderson’s skillful balance between the comically quirky and the tragically beautiful (especially luke wilson’s suicide attempt and ben stiller’s entire broken character in the royal tenenbaums. which is saying something. because i really hate ben stiller, usually.).
i love his backstories, though sometimes they are too much to follow.
and i love dudley. i want a pet dudley. no lie.
i’m also glad that bill murray finally has a genre (of sorts) in which his style and personality are a perfect fit, since he has been unsuccessful at this since SNL in the 70’s.
i would like to mention that the fact that i watched the darjeeling limited with pretty jesse after a lunch date and a game of scrabble. it made the experience exponentially more exciting.
